Many patients search online for the best dentist they can find. This does make sense. There is a wealth of information on the Internet. For instance, there are many sites which rank or rate dentists. These can be very helpful and valid. I do have several points I can make, to assist you with finding the best or highest ranked dentist.
First, I would look at multiple websites. This gives you a better idea of the dentists and how they rank across multiple sources. It seems this is a great way to find those dentists who are consistently ranked higher.
Second, if one or more dentists have significantly more reviews than others within the same site, there may be more than just organically-created reviews that makes this happen. In these cases, the dentists may be offering an incentive of some kind, or may be significantly more aggressive at having patients write reviews within the dental office. As a result, these practices may have rankings or ratings that are unfairly skewed because of the additional controls they have on the writing of the reviews. I would be cautious with those dental offices that have significantly more reviews. In my practice, all the online reviews are done by our valued patients on their chosen devices, on their own time.
Third, in other cases, perhaps more than one dental office may be included in the list of reviews for a particularly named office. With the growth of corporate and retail entities, and with the growth of dental service organizations, more than one location may be contributing to the number of reviews. This creates several difficulties for you. For one thing, this makes the number of reviews for the named office to go up significantly because more than one office is included in the tallies. For another thing, how do you know which office is being reviewed if they are grouped all together?
Lastly, for those dental practices that are of a corporate or retail entity, or which are part of a dental service organization, there is a much higher likelihood that there is a turnover of dentists. With these reviews, how do you know which dentist is being reviewed if the specific name of the dentist is not included? And if the specific dentist name is included, is that dentist still there, since there tends to be much more turnover?
